A “simple” greeting card cast a chill on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday December 31, 2023. The mayor of Perpignan Louis Aliot illustrated his end-of-year wishes with an illustration taken from the Franco-Belgian comic strip Asterix Le gaulois. From Monday January 1, 2024, this member of the National Rally party (formerly Front National – FN) led by the French MP for the 11th constituency of Pas-de-Calais Marine Le Pen was ordered by Editions Albert René to remove from social networks said greeting card. Beyond the fact that he never asked for authorization, the rights holders clarified to AFP (Agence France-Presse) that the Asterix characters do not belong to any political camp:

The mayor of Perpignan Louis Aliot did not seek to enter into conflict with Editions Albert René which, as a reminder, belongs to the Hachette Livre group (a subsidiary of Vivendi), and complied with their request. In an interview with AFP, he said:
We will obviously comply. (…) It has never been a problem. (…) I’ve been doing this for five or six years and it’s never been a problem. I do it regularly, or with Tintin for that matter, it depends. They are still icons. But if they want me to take it off, I’ll take it off. – Louis Aliot (mayor of Perpignan)
If the greeting card is now (January 11, 2024) deleted from X, it was still online on Wednesday January 3, 2024 at midday. The mayor of Perpignan granted Editions Albert René’s request, but at least two days later.
Asterix: adventures to experience in 2024-2025
In a slightly less political and therefore lighter register, the most famous of “our ancestors the Gauls” should experience the next two years particularly rich in adventures. In 2024, ‘the two animated films Asterix: The Domain of the Gods and Asterix: The Secret of the Magic Potion – written and co-directed by Alexandre Astier – will be released in cinemas from February 7 to March 11. Much later, in 2025, it was Alain Chabat himself who reappropriated the universe imagined by Albert Uderzo and René Goscinny with a Netflix animated series planned for 2025.
