The real version of Rebel Moon coming soon? The final edition of the Star Wars-inspired feature film is expected to be released this year on Netflix.

Zack Snyder continues to provide news about his latest film. Rebel Moon – Part 1: Child of Fire has been available since December 22, 2023 exclusively on Netflix. The director’s cut version should also see the light of day soon. The director spoke to Louis Leterrier in the DGA Director’s Cut podcast. Although he remained quite vague in not giving a precise date, he indicated that this new version should be released at the beginning of summer 2024. Zack Snyder also specified that it will be more mature since it will be classified R, for “Rated Restricted” (not recommended for under 17s).

As a reminder, Rebel Moon tells the story of a peaceful colony on a distant moon on the edge of the galaxy. However, this small community of farmers receives a visit from Admiral Atticus Noble, leader of the armies of the Mother World. The farmers will then realize that the admiral is not so friendly and is just trying to conquer their moon. Faced with its cruelty and brutality, the local population will then place all its hopes of survival in the hands of a mysterious stranger named Kora. Rebel Moon was basically conceived as a Star Wars spin-off. However, Zack Snyder changed his mind even before proposing it to Disney studios. He then changed his mind by rewriting his script to make it an original concept.

Rebel Moon cut into two parts at the studio’s request

This summer you’ll see what I first pitched to Netflix. Then you’ll think you’re a studio executive and you’ll say, Oh, I see what they mean. So that’s it, the complete odyssey » says Zack Snyder in the podcast DGA Director’s Cut. The director originally wrote a 200-page script for his story. Additionally, to reach a wider audience, the scenario had been watered down to await the PG-13 classification (Parental consent recommended, film not recommended for under 13s) in the United States.

Faced with these modifications, the film was therefore cut into two parts. The sequel Rebel Moon: Part 2 – The Slasher should therefore be released on April 19, 2024. “ The studio wanted a two-hour movie… so we cut the 200-page script and split it in half. We also extended the final scene of Part 1 » explains Zack Snyder regarding the change that was made to his film.

Rebel Moon Director’s Cut, better than the first version?

The director is also renowned for offering improved versions of his films. This is particularly the case with Justice League. The first feature film rated 39% on Rotten Tomatoes, was destroyed by critics compared to Snyder’s version (which still doubled the length of the film, taking it from 1h59 to 4h02) rated 72%. Hoping therefore that the director’s cut version catches up for this first part of Rebel Moon which failed to convince the critics with a score of 22%.
