After a sparkling wrestling career, Dave Bautista managed to bounce back into the cinema and for once, superheroes gave him a big helping hand. Could it be that the actor returns to the role of Bane, on the DC Comics side?
From one superhero to another?
We no longer present Dave Bautista, WWE superstar in the 2000s who, after a real slump, was able to bounce back in the most beautiful way thanks to James Gunn: the director of Guardians of the Galaxy offered him the role of Draxx the Destroyera highly appreciated place within a then super-powerful MCU that it will have held until 2023 and through numerous blockbusters.
To tell the truth, this breakthrough in the Seventh Art even earned him roles (and sometimes rather serious ones) in a bunch of other films like Army of the Dead by Zack Snyder, Knock at the Cabin by M. Night Shyamalan, Glass Onion by Rian Johnson or Blade Runner 2049 or Dune by Denis Villeneuve, just that!
However, his adventure at Marvel ended with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and since then, water has flowed under the bridges. For example, the appointment of James Gunn and Peter Safran as heads of the DC Universewhich the two leaders are responsible for rebuilding with new heads for our superheroes and supervillains: precisely, Bautista has always expressed his desire to play Bane, Batman’s iconic opponent… and he even lobbied at Warner Bros.
In 2021, the actor declared:
I really want to play Bane. I want to play Bane so bad that I went to Warner Bros., had a meeting with them, walked in the door and said, “I want to play Bane.” I am not joking. They said, “Wow, wow. We’re not looking for anyone for Bane!”

Obviously, with James Gunn at the head of the DCU who just happens to be a trusted friend and colleague of Bautista, there is reason to wonder if the role of Bane can really be assigned to him. The filmmaker has already said that he would like the former wrestler to work with him again and imagine that a project called “The Brave and the Bold” (literally “The Brave and the Bald”) is planned within the DC Universe, which could well refer to Bruce Wayne… and Bane.
Just to add a little more fuel to the fire, Dave Bautista has just re-shared an artwork of Bane in an Instagram story, created by the famous artist Bosslogic. For once, this gesture has the appearance of a teaser and for many, this seems to more or less confirm the nomination of the actor in the role of the famous antagonist. The only one who managed to break the Bat, literally and figuratively…
