Rox and Rouky, a Disney that still terrorizes
During your childhood, there was probably a film that had an impact on you, even if it was aimed at a young audience. It’s difficult to forget the death of Bambi’s mother, that of Mufasa in The Lion King, or even certain passages from Dumbo, to name only the best known. There is another feature film which, even today, gets spectators talking. It is Rox and Rouky which was born in 1981. 43 years later, some still say they are terrified by certain passagesnotably the abandonment in the forest of the little fox which is terribly sad, but also the bear attack towards the end of the film . Rox and Rouky, an animated film created in discord
It was in 1981 that Rox et Rouky was created, without anyone knowing how complicated the creation of this feature film was. For several years, creative differences raged within the team of screenwriters and animators, in particular because of the liberties in adapting the novel The Fox and the Hound by Daniel P. Mannix from which this work is taken. Furthermore, the animation studio was undergoing major changes, which brought young animators to work alongside seasoned employees. This coexistence was not easy for the world, since the vision of animation was not the same. Thus, more than twelve people working in animation slammed the door.
Fortunately, this film was a great success and is still appreciated more than forty years later. Several animators who worked on this project became internationally renowned filmmakers, such as Tim Burton or Brad Bird.
