A technically impressive film that was made over 20 years

Even if his golden age is surely already behind him, it must be admitted that Will Smith is still one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actors. After a memorable role in The prince of Bel-Air which immediately propelled him to the top, the American actor played characters that were all as iconic and varied as each other. In 2019, he also starred in a film that perhaps didn’t get enough attention: Gemini Man. Directed by Ang Lee (Life of Pi), this action feature film features the American actor in the role of Henry Brogan… and his own clone sent to kill him. Even though this main character is an effective and very well trained sniper, the real problem is that his clone is a much younger version of him, at the peak of his physical abilities.

Originally, the concept for this film was established in 1997, more than 20 years ago. After passing from hand to hand, the film was finally put on hold due to technical difficulties it represented. Indeed, in the 1990s, it was not as easy to filming the same actor at two different ages. Today, on the other hand, cinema has already proven on several occasions that digital rejuvenation technologies can work wonders. The project was therefore resumed in 2016 for release in 2019.

Moreover, digital rejuvenation using motion capture is not the only technical particularity of the film. In fact, the latter was filmed in HFR (for High Frame Rate) and therefore offers a frequency of 120 frames per second, compared to 24 frames per second for the vast majority of films. The whole thing gives a more fluid rendering that video game players are familiar with, but that movie fans still struggle to accept. Indeed, according to spectators, the result can appear too smooth and therefore give the impression that the whole thing is completely unreal. Others, however, greatly appreciate this particularity, which was also integrated into the Hobbit trilogy as well as the second film in the Avatar saga.

Only a few days left to see it on Netflix

In case you still haven’t seen it, know that Gemini Man has been part of Netflix’s catalog for quite a while now. Unfortunately, as is very often the case on SVOD platforms, the content is changing and it is time for the film with Will Smith to leave its place. If you want to take advantage of it before it leaves the platform, you will have to hurry since Gemini Man will no longer be on Netflix after April 10. This leaves you with a little less than a week to try the adventure.

Note that, like every month, Netflix will still offer a whole selection of new releases this month of April. Among them, we note for example the arrival of Godzilla x Kong (right in time to see it before going to discover its sequel currently in the cinema), Rocketman, Scoop or even Rebel Moon – Part 2: The Slasher. If you’re afraid of getting bored during this month, you can spend a few evenings on Netflix without too much problem.
