Ailing Nadal eliminated in Brisbane

Rafael Nadal lost the 3rd game after his comeback. In Brisbane, the 37-year-old Spaniard lost to local Jordan Thompson (ATP 55) 7:5, 6:7 (6:8), 3:6 and missed out on a place in the semi-finals. In the second set, Nadal missed 3 match points before giving up the tiebreak. In the third round, the 22-time Grand Slam winner seemed to be a bit out of steam: Nadal had to be treated by a physiotherapist off the court for pain in his left thigh. «I hope that I can train again next week and play in Melbourne. To be honest, I’m not 100 percent sure yet,” he said. The Australian Open starts on January 14th. In 2023, Nadal injured his hip flexor in Melbourne and was sidelined for almost a year after surgery.
