Biathlon: Swiss women in 4th place

The Swiss biathletes just missed the podium in the World Cup relay in Ruhpolding. Amy Baserga, Aita Gasparin, Elisa Gasparin and Lena Häcki-Gross placed 4th in Upper Bavaria. For the team, even more than the best result of the season would have been possible: Before the last shooting, Häcki-Gross was fighting for a top 3 place, but 3 spare rounds thwarted her plans. Switzerland finished on the podium just 2.8 seconds behind Norway, Germany and Italy. With such performances, the Swiss relay team could do even more this season, and the next chance is already beckoning next week in Antholz (ITA). Before that, the mass start is still on the program in Ruhpolding on Sunday (from 2:40 p.m. live on SRF).

Snowboard: Gasser and Hasegawa win in Kreischberg

The snowboarders’ Big Air competition ended with victories for Austria and Japan. Among the women, the local Anna Gasser prevailed. Two successful jumps gave her a total of 179.75, which put her ahead of Zoi Sadowski Synnott by around 3 points. The New Zealander showed the best jump of the competition with 97.50 points – a switch back 1260. In the men’s Taiga Hasegawa was able to celebrate her second World Cup victory. The Japanese was the only athlete to make two jumps over 90 points. With Ryoma Kimata, whose back was rewarded with 97 points in 1980, and Kira Kimura, the other podium places also went to Japan. Nobody from the Swiss team survived the qualification.

Snowboard cross: 1st gold at Universiade

Sophie Hediger gave Switzerland its first medal at the 31st World University Games in Lake Placid (USA). The snowboard crosser, who also took part in the 2022 Olympics (7th place in the team competition), secured gold. The 24-year-old from Graubünden defied the adverse weather conditions and first won the semifinals and then the final.

Ski jumping: Kasai with a comeback without a chance

In the second-rate Continental Cup, the now 50-year-old Noriaki Kasai failed to impress on his return to the competition stage. In his home country of Sapporo, the Japanese only came in 37th among 44 participants with a jump of 104.5 m and missed the second round. It was Kasai’s first appearance at this level of competition since December 2020.
