The year 2024 begins, but the award ceremonies for the year 2023 continue. A few weeks ago, Valve launched the votes for its now traditional Steam Awards, which have finally delivered their verdict. There are some obvious ones, but also quite a few surprises. One of them concerns Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy.

Game Awards: Hogwarts Legacy, one of the big absentees of the evening?

Every year, it’s the same thing. Shortly before winter, everyone starts award prizes to try to identify trends and notable moments in terms of video games. Many editorial teams are getting involved, as are gamers and podcasters, as well as various ceremonies such as the Golden Joystick Awards and the Game Awards. Despite all the limits that can be found in it, it is this second ceremony which was imposed. Created, produced and hosted by Geoff Keighley, the Game Awards attract developers, executives and the press, but also publishers.

For the public, the ceremony is above all an evening of announcements, marked by the awards ceremony. The competition was tough, with Alan Wake II, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Resident Evil 4, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Baldur’s Gate III vie for the supreme title. Ultimately, it was Baldur’s Gate 3 that won Game of the Year, picking up other awards along the way. However, one game was completely absent from the ceremony, despite selling over 15 million units.

This title is obviously Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy, launched at the beginning of the year. Geoff Keighley not having spoken at all on this subject, there have been many theories. For some, sales say nothing about the quality of the title, and the latter simply did not have not his place with regard to the present games. For others, it makes following the controversies surrounding the title. Exploiting the Harry Potter license, the title allowed JK Rowling to receive royalties. However, the latter is accused of transphobia and of supporting exclusionary initiatives.

Hogwarts Legacy finally wins an award

Regardless, Hogwarts Legacy didn’t get any prizes at the ceremony, since it wasn’t named nowhere. The Avalanche game, however, had several chances to recover thanks to Steam Awards. In the list of nominees revealed on December 18, we find Hogwarts Legacy among the games in the running for Game of the Year and Best Steam Deck. In this second category, the Warner Bros. production. was competing against Brotato, Dredge, The Outlast Trials and Diablo IV. And, a little to everyone’s surprise, Hogwarts Legacy won !

The Game of the Year award went to Baldur’s Gate 3, but that’s no surprise to anyone. So here it is Hogwarts Legacy rewarded, after failing at the Golden Joystick Awards and the Game Awards. As for the other winners, you can find them below but before that, let’s mention the fact that Starfield, one of the most played games of the year on the platform, won the Most Innovative Gameplay Award against Shadow of Doubt, Remnant 2, Contraband Police and Your Only Move is Hustle.
