A kind of fantasy for Pokémon fans, Arceus Legends and its unique open-world formula will arrive very soon, on January 28, 2022, exclusively on Nintendo Switch. That is to say in a little over two weeks. This is probably the last time that the title of Game Freak is revealed to the public before the big jump. On the video, the player brings for example a Lixy to a villager so that the latter can study it.

Another way to increase your rank is to catch Pokémon. And the new presentation video shows us a little more on this point. For example, it will be possible to use fruit to bait a creature, and catch it more easily. As a general rule, low level pocket monsters will be easily captured as long as you keep a low profile. Otherwise, some will run away or even get angry. On the last video, we can see a Pokémon that goes into “alert state”. With this scenario, there is no point in throwing Pokéballs at the animal, which will immediately bounce on its head. Instead, you will have to engage in combat. This is not the only case where there will certainly be action. The roads of Hisui sometimes hide “Barons” – powerful forms with big red eyes – even “Monarchs”, whose clashes resemble a real Pokémon action game.

Focus on combat

The fights against the Monarchs, unveiled last August, are separate. As we learn in the video, it will be necessary to make balms using the favorite fruits of the creature in question to throw them in his face, while dodging thanks to a lock system. After a while, a “classic” Pokémon battle will begin. Against the Monarchs more than anyone, you will have to exploit the new tactics of Arceus, detailed in the presentation. At the center of the strategy aspect of the title, we find the “Powerful Style” as well as the “Fast Style”, new variants in parallel with the basic attacks, the use of which requires one more PP – the famous points of use of the series – only recent. The Powerful Style allows you to inflict more damage but risks causing the trainer to lose his next turn, with the possibility of being hit twice in a row. The Quick Style, on the other hand, is less damage and a chance to land two hits. This is a first: the order of turns is indicated.

The last video gives an interesting example. Facing an opponent ready to attack twice in a row, Raichu calls upon his “Thunder Wave” ability in Quick Style to first split the enemy onslaught into two individual hits, but also apply the paralyzed state. Results, Raichu is about to act a second time when he did not lead wide a few moments ago. A nice demonstration, which allowed the player to capture an ally of choice, and not to lose some of the objects collected along the way, as a consequence when the life bar reaches zero. Moreover, the new presentation reveals several ways to fill your inventory, whether alone (picking up flowers on the ground) or using Pokémon, asking them to drop food from a tree, for example. Everything will eventually be used to create potions, decoys, bombs and Pokéballs. Finally, to craft these objects, you will have to go to the appropriate workshops, whether it is the bivouacs in the middle of nature or the unique town of Arceus: Rusti-Cité.

Gameplay and Rusti-Cité

The walls of Rusti-Cité contain a lot of inhabitants as well as the various bodies of the Galaxie Group. There is the Corps of Caregivers, of Defense, and especially that of Researchers, of which the main character is a part. It is to this group that you will be accountable for the progress of your Pokémon discoveries.. By the way, be aware that capturing a creature is not enough to validate it definitively in your collection. To do this, you will be asked to carry out “Pokédex tasks”, kinds of small missions that exist on the sidelines of the side quests with the inhabitants and the main missions advancing the screenplay. On the official site From Arceus Legends, we can see that it’s about things like “catching the specimen”, “defeating the specimen” or even “defeating a specimen with a ground-type attack”. But the real impact of these tasks on the player’s progress is still unknown.

On the other hand, the video recalls details which are always good to know: Hisui’s Pokémon will vary according to the place of the island but also according to the time and the weather conditions. This will undoubtedly make the tracking of certain creatures more complex. For now, we don’t know if there will be some kind of GPS to Pokémon, but the player will still be able to travel on the back of pocket monsters, some of which also sport an appearance unique to the region (the famous ” regional forms”). By the way, interesting detail seen in the video: it will be possible to change mounts on the fly, even if the player is already using one. Enough to promise lively and fluid movements, just like the new system for locking Pokémon, which seems reactive, well implemented, and which should be useful in the busiest phases.
