This week, LPP returns to an announcement from Larian Studios. The world of video games is plagued by numerous waves of layoffs. The creators of Baldur’s Gate 3 are reaching out to them.

If you follow the video game industry closely, you know that times are tough and that many studios are laying off workers with all their might. We are talking here about Sega of America, which separated 61 employees, the company Embracer, which laid off 97 people within Eidos-Montreal, Riot Games and its 530 departures (i.e. 11% of its workforce) . For Microsoft, we are talking about 1,900 employees within its video game division, and the list is still long. Recently, Sony entered the fray with the layoff of 8% of PlayStation’s global workforce.

This is where Larian Studios comes in, going against the current trend and recruiting. The creators of Baldur’s Gate 3 posted a tweet on their X account, with the phrase “pursue your career at Larian Studios” and a list of open positions with them. Going through animation and programming, the job offers are varied, and even if you don’t see it as your specialty, Larian Studios still offers you the opportunity to try your luck. If some are ironic about the fact that they present themselves as knights coming to the aid of the victims of big companies, and that it is impossible to recruit so many employees, this remains a nice gesture on the part of the creators of GOTY 2023.

Larian Studios, a successful studio

If Larian Studios can afford to recruit, it is because it is one of the big studios at the moment. Obviously, they are at the origin of the GOTY 2023, Baldur’s Gate III, which met with great critical success upon its release, but also sold more than 10 million copies. The title is regularly updated, for bug fixes but also lots of new features. Players are patiently waiting for DLC, even if the content in the base version is already colossal. The developers from Larian are not their first try, since Divinity Original Sin II, their previous game, was also very well received. Let’s hope that success continues for Larian Studios, and above all, no layoffs.
