Why activate Arachnophobia mode in Hogwarts Legacy?

In Hogwarts Legacy, you will quickly have to fight against all kinds of different enemies. Goblins, poachers, wolves, mudbugs… The Highlands surrounding Hogwarts Castle are full of dangers that the wizard you play risks having to face. But if there is one creature that is found in abundance in this game, it is spiders. Small, big, huge, red, black, brown… There’s something for everyone, and you’ll face them in forests, caves, swamps and almost every other environment offered by Hogwarts Legacy. Worse still, some quests are directly linked to these nasty beasts, and you will sometimes have to squeeze through narrow corridors filled with cobwebs, not to mention all the times these eight-legged creatures surprise you from the ceiling.

You will have understood, if you are afraid of spiders, you risk having a bad time playing Hogwarts Legacy. Fortunately, even if we had to wait several months before being able to benefit from it, the developers thought of you and added an “arachnophobia mode”. Thanks to the latter, you will be able to transform all the spiders in the game into another creature with a very different appearance. Thus, the eight-legged beasts will be represented by a floating body with red eyes and four roller skates instead of legs. If they will therefore retain a certain frightening side, all the characteristic elements of spiders should be erased (legs, hairs, etc.). To find out more precisely what Arachnophobia mode changes, here are all the elements transformed by the latter:

  • Changed the appearance of all spiders (see screenshot below)
  • Removal of spider agonies and screams
  • Removed small spider knockdown animations
  • Disappearance of static spider corpses
  • Please note, the illustrations of spiders in the wizard’s guide remain unchanged

If you are desperate to get rid of spiders in Hogwarts Legacy, it is possible to do so since a certain update deployed in May 2023. Indeed, by digging into the accessibility optionsyou can finally choose to activate Arachnophobia mode so you no longer have to look at these dirty beasts.

To find Arachnophobia mode, open the game menu and go to the “Settings” tab. From the latter, select the “Accessibility options” sectionthen go down to the bottom of the menu to find the famous “Arachnophobia mode”. All you have to do is activate it to transform all the spiders into floating bodies with roller skates. Note that the change is instantaneous and that you will not have to download anything or even restart your game. Likewise, you can return to classic mode at any time by repeating the same operation. It’s your turn to explore the Highlands in complete safety!
