Affinity and Romances in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Contrary to Final Fantasy VII Remake where the affinities with the other characters were not apparent apart from certain lines of dialogue, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth takes the decision to make it a mechanic in its own right, and this is decisive for certain elements of the adventure. In FF7 Rebirthyou can measure your level of affinity (and therefore friendship and potential romance) with each member of your team thanks to an emoji system that you can consult by pressing L1 when your teammates are nearby. The first time you chat with a character, you will see a gray emoji appear above his head. After that you will be able to unlock up to 5 affinity levelsas following :

• Level 1 : the emoji is purple with an affinity bar.
• Level 2 : the emoji is light green with two affinity bars.
• Level 3: the emoji is Green with three affinity bars.
• Level 4: the emoji is blue with four affinity bars.
• Level 5: the emoji is light blue with five affinity bars.

THE Level 5 is the maximum level of affinity, and it is decisive for landing a date and a potential romance with your favorite character during the Chapter 12.

You can increase your affinity level with a character in several ways, starting with select the best line of dialogue when you chat with them. There is no indicator for this on your first playthrough, but in the meantime our guide to the best lines of dialoguewe advise you to save just before a discussion to test the different options. The best option generally provides access to a slightly longer conversation.

You will also sometimes need to make choices which will influence your relationship with your teammates during the main storyline, such as deciding to fight alongside one team over another during the Chapter 6or choose a route that will appeal more to a particular character during the Chapter 7. Note that your relationship can only go up, never down, no matter what choices you make.

You can also use synchronized actions and skills to strengthen affinity with certain characters. Indeed, the first time you use a particular synchronized action or skill, your affinity with the relevant teammate will increase.

But probably the surest way to increase an affinity is to complete specific quests. Indeed, each quest is associated with a particular character, and this one will accompany you in the associated cutscenes until the mission is completed. Do your best on a questi.e. collecting the maximum number of materials, giving the highest quality item, or choosing the appropriate ingredient, will not only earn you better rewards, but also strengthen your bonds with the associated character in a deeper way.

However, you cannot know which quest corresponds to which teammate before starting it. Only once the quest giver NPC has been contacted will you be able to see the portrait of the associated character in the tab Quests from the map menu.
