Next Generation – New Hyundai Santa Fe: The rear will polarize

Hyundai reveals the first images of the new generation Santa Fe. The Korean brand’s flagship will be a massive box with a futuristic look and a more American design. In Europe, the appearance could polarize, in any case, the vehicle will not be lost in the crowd.

The “mid-size SUV of the fifth generation” gets a good portion more off-road flair. Hyundai speaks of a lifestyle-based design typology. An elementary part of the concept is the maximization of the loading capacity for all kinds of “outdoor and city activities”. The large tailgate opens to reveal a spacious interior with “terrace-like rear layout”. The seats in the second and third row can be folded down completely. The front of the vehicle has something sublime with the high bonnet, the H-shaped light signature of the headlights and the fenders that are as powerful as they are angular. The headlight graphics can be found in the H motif of the lower front section. And in the brand emblem. In the side view, the designers didn’t exactly skimp on lines, at first glance it can be irritating how the side window front tapers towards the rear, with rising shoulders and sloping roof line, where you might see a straight roof would expect. The wheel arches are a bit confusingly designed: the eye-catching, colored wheel arch is huge and angular, the actual wheel arch is a black plastic panel that suggests a larger wheel arch. It is already large in itself, because the rims measure up to 21 inches. The rear end looks like it was cut off with a knife, the rear light strip (the H is also found here) stretches from fender to fender. This is where opinions will most likely differ. The interior design emphasizes horizontal and vertical lines, with an H motif on the dashboard and air vents. The interior is open and spacious and is dominated by a curved panorama display that combines two 12.3-inch screens and the open center console with a wireless dual charging station. A number of sustainable materials are used in the new Santa Fe. The Alcantara headliner, floor mats and backrests of the second and optional third row of seats are made from recycled plastic, while the dashboard and door panels are made of eco-friendly synthetic leather. Hyundai has not yet published any further information, prices or a date for the market launch.
