The former CCO of Epic Games and co-creator of Fortnite has said he wants to oversee a film based on the video game, saying he knows how to make the best possible adaptation of the universe and is confident people would love it!

It has been several years now thata rumor surrounding a potential Fortnite film runs on the Internet. In fact, the idea is not really surprising, given the popularity of the franchise as well as its expansion outside of the video game medium, via its partnerships with toy brands as well as its own collectible card game by example. This combined with the success of recent adaptations of games to cinema or TV series, such as the film Mario, The Last of Us and recently Fallout by Amazon Prime Video, contribute to making germinate the idea of a big screen port of the successful battle royale. During an interview for GamesRadar+ during the “Sands” International Film Festival, Donald Mustard, former commercial director of Epic Games and co-creator of Fortnitestated that if there were to be a feature film, he would like to supervise it. The latter declares “know exactly how I would do it. I think I would make the best version of it”. Mustard then explains that, even when he was still working for Epic Games, no film project was in the drawers. “I think Fortnite as an experience is very unique to the medium it’s attached to at the moment” before adding that he “don’t think there will be a movie, at least not anytime soon, although people would love it”.
An idea running through my head
And although no project is a priori on track, when mention was made of Louis Leterrier’s interest in the project, Donald Mustard admitted that he had not yet spoken about the project with anyone, but definitely want to do it. In fact, the former CCO of Epic Games now works for the production company AGBO, a company founded by the Russo brothers, directors ofAvengers: Infinity War And Endgame For example.
Mustard also explained that he was very happy to have joined their teamsince according to him “Joe and Anthony (Russo) have always had a unique storytelling style and you can see it in everything they do, from Arrested Development to Community to Captain America to Avengers”. He concludes the interview by specifying that he is “in the early stages of developing new stories, new projects and the worlds we’re excited to create. It’s fun and it’s amazing for me, a dream come true to work with artists that I respect and admire so much. So we’ll see what the future holds”. If nothing is certain regarding a feature film Fortnite, it’s a safe bet that the idea is far from being abandoned.
