Whether it is considered a classic or not, no game is safe from a remake these days, as further proven by this improbable return of the Data East game, which Forever Entertainment justified the start of work on. two years ago, noting the success of a game like Streets of Rage 4. As with the Sega franchise, the pixel production is giving way to 2D that looks like comic strips. A style necessarily very far from the base material, even if we find the trio of the time composed of Jake (American monster hunter), Christopher (English vampire hunter) and Hong Hua (Chinese martial arts specialist).
To distinguish itself from many urban beat’em ups already on the market in 1993, Data East chose a horror theme, replacing the thugs and punks with undead and werewolves, while the drug lords leave make way for mad scientists, necromancers and other vampire lords. If it can be completed in a good half hour like most games of the genre, the seven levels show off the country with themes like the Andes mountain range and the vampire castle. The three characters obviously have their own techniques but also, more original, their favorite food, which must be taken into account when sharing the food. Note in this regard the possibility of playing up to four instead of three in this remake, perhaps a way of making us understand that a new character will be there.
On the gameplay and mechanics side, Forever Entertainment is announcing improvements without detailing anything at the moment. The 1993 arcade game featured an attack button that must be pressed repeatedly to perform a combo or held to prepare a powerful attack. The second button, the jump button, can be combined with the attack button to perform a dodge. The last button is dedicated to special attacks which clean up the entire screen in exchange for a portion of the character’s health. In addition, each character has specific attacks by combining keys and directions. Finally, the remake will allow you to play with the original music (often cited in the highlights) or arranged versions. For the little story, Night Slashers has been available on Steam since June 24, 2021 at a low price, but users point to deplorable emulation.
Finally, note that Forever Entertainment has not announced any release date or the platforms for Night Slashers Remakeeven if the habits of the Polish publisher (Panzer Dragoon Remake, House of the Dead Remake, Front Mission Remake) make us bet on a Switch release followed by a few patches and ports to other machines.
