Nike replaces Adidas: Majority of Germans against DFB supplier change

Nike replaces Adidas
Majority of Germans against DFB supplier change

Adidas and the DFB part ways. From 2027, Nike will dress the association’s teams. The majority of German citizens do not agree with the change, as a survey commissioned by RTL and ntv shows.

An era is coming to an end: After more than 70 years, the German national football teams are changing supplier. As the German Football Association (DFB) announced on Wednesday, from 2027 Adidas will no longer be the official partner of the DFB teams, but rather the US company Nike.

The decision is not well received by the population. Only seven percent of German citizens think the DFB’s change of supplier from Adidas to Nike is “good”. 53 percent think the change is “not so good,” according to a representative Forsa survey commissioned by RTL and ntv. 40 percent of those surveyed “do not care” about changing the supplier for the DFB teams. The majority (76 percent) of those interested in football rate the change negatively.

Just over a third of all German citizens (36 percent) find it understandable that the DFB chose the highest bidder company. A majority of 58 percent believe that the DFB should definitely have chosen a German company as the national team’s supplier, even if it did not make the highest offer. Those interested in football think this even more often (67 percent).

Almost half of all respondents (47 percent) said they would miss the Adidas jerseys. Among those interested in football, agreement with the question was even greater (69 percent). German citizens are divided on the question of whether companies in Germany can be required to give preference to other German companies when investing or purchasing, even if this could involve higher costs. 48 percent said yes to this question, 43 percent said no.

The data for the RTL/ntv trend barometer was collected by the market and opinion research institute Forsa on behalf of RTL Deutschland on March 22nd. Database: 1002 respondents. Statistical margin of error: plus/minus 3 percentage points.
