This action-adventure game offers a unique vision of the Japanese capital, in which the citizens have been replaced by more or less frightening spirits that prowl the rainy streets. There remains Akito, the young protagonist, who will inherit abilities as supernatural as the enemies he faces, in the hope of finding his family. Powers he owes to KK, an experienced ghost hunter whose mind has merged with our hero. It is by means of a gesture worthy of onmyôdô and ninjutsu that the player will manipulate the ether, an energy that he will weave by combining three different elements (fire, water, wind) according to the enemies that make him face, these elements being in a way the equivalent of the handgun, the shotgun and the rocket launcher. A 4th element, earth, will parry attacks.
Akito’s objective will be to eliminate the corruption embodied by the fog of the torii, portals leading to the Underworld. Although the system does not include the ability to leap around, Akito will have an ability to hoist himself on the roofs of certain buildings, because the torii have obviously been placed everywhere and not only at the entrances to the buildings. Shinto shrines as is traditionally the case. Fans of Japanese folklore are sure to find all sorts of urban legends and Yokai (Kappa, Nekomata, Tanuki, Ittan-momen, Rokurokubi) in the game, some friendly and some less so.
Other tools, such as the bow and talismans, await the player who can choose his next destination using spectral vision to highlight points of interest in Tokyo. Finally, as a PlayStation 5 console exclusive (the game will be available in March 2023 at the earliest on the other consoles), Tango Gameworks promises to make good use of the 3D sound and the capabilities of the DualSense controller, without forgetting to simmer a 4K HDR sauce with its zest of ray tracing.
