Famous Italian fashion designer Nino Cerruti has died at the age of 91.

Italian designer and entrepreneur Nino Cerruti (1930-2022) has died. As the newspaper “Corriere della Sera” reports, he had previously been hospitalized in Vercelli, Piedmont, for hip surgery. “A giant of entrepreneurship is leaving us,” said Deputy Minister for Economic Development Gilberto Pichetto (68) on the designer’s death.

At the age of 20 he took over the textile factory

After the death of his father, Cerruti gave up his philosophy and journalism studies at the age of 20 in order to take over the textile factory that his family had run since 1881 in Biella in the north-west of the country. In the 1960s he hired the future Italian fashion star Giorgio Armani (87) as a designer.

Cerruti dressed many Hollywood stars such as Jean-Paul Belmondo (1933-2021), Michael Douglas (77), Richard Gere (72), Jack Nicholson (84) and Robert Redford (85) in front of and behind the camera. He was the official designer of the Ferrari Formula 1 team. In the early 2000s, Cerruti sold the company. His last collection appeared in spring/summer 2002.
