We do not know what fly stung Nintendo. Still, the Japanese company has teamed up with luxury watchmaker Tag Heuer to offer us two limited edition watches. The most luxurious model costs around €26,000. It’s so exclusive that even if you can afford it, you’ll have to wait.
Nintendo and Tag Heuer announced on Twitter that they had created two Mario Kart-themed luxury watches. Both models are limited edition, and it is not sure that they were designed for the average fan of the Italian plumber. The most affordable, the Tag Heuer Formula 1 x Mario Kart Chronograph costs a whopping $4,300, while the most luxurious, the Tag Heuer Formula 1 x Mario Kart Tourbillon costs six times as much, at $25,600. Remember that Apple’s most expensive connected watch, the Apple Watch Series 8 Hermès model, costs €2,029.
The design of the Chronograph model is bold and bold, the qualities associated with Formula 1 drivers and Mario Kart characters. The 44 mm diameter steel case is full of references to Nintendo’s racing game. In the window at three o’clock, we see a small yellow star or a banana, while at nine o’clock we see the iconic Mario driving his kart. The black ceramic bezel is embellished with a speedometer 400 km/h highlighting the famous phosphorescent logo of the game. The back of the watch is also adorned with a Mario driving his kart.

The masterpiece of the Tag Heuer Formula 1 x Mario Kart collection is the Tourbillon model which costs the equivalent of around 100 Nintendo Switch, the brand’s star product. Its 45 mm diameter titanium case is surrounded by a black ceramic bezel. Its pusher is embellished with the characteristic red M of our favorite plumber. Four counters are visible and one of them shows us displays a Bullet Bill, a Spiny Shell and still Mario in his profile kart. Through the sapphire back you can see even more characters and details reminiscent of the world of the famous game: Princess Peach and Luigi. Even the texture of the black leather strap is reminiscent of Koopa Troopa shells.

As you can see, these watches are meticulous in every detail, which is the least of things when you see the price at which they are offered. You can pre-order the Chronograph model on the Tag Heuer website until October 17, while it will be necessary to register on a waiting list for the Tourbillon model.
