Nintendo France plans to sell another 1 million Switch in 2022

The Switch having already reached the figure of 6.1 million units in France, the general manager of Nintendo France therefore intends to sell another million (or not far) consoles in 2022. As it stands, the Switch has already caught up with the total of PS2 and PS4 sold in France in less than 5 years and only has to exceed 6.3 million Wii (which will be done in the spring at the latest) to get ahead of all the consoles of salon. All consoles combined, the scalp of the Nintendo DS (12 million machines sold) is the only one that could escape the Switch.

As a reminder, the Switch has largely imposed itself in 2021 with 1.3 million consoles sold in France (its second best year) against the 600,000 PS5 and 214,000 Xbox Series, consoles whose performance has been greatly hampered by shortages. of components. Said shortage also affects Nintendo but to a much less embarrassing extent, Philippe Lavoué however regretting not being able to supply more OLED Switches.

This has just had an interesting start with 221,000 copies sold in France since October and has met with particular success with young men. The Switch OLED joined the classic Switch (4.9 million copies sold in France) and the Switch Lite (943,000 sales). “But it is not uncommon to see households with 2 or even 3 Switches“, adds the general manager. The kind of phenomenon which could allow the Switch to question the world title of the PlayStation 2, the exact final figure of which has never been communicated by the manufacturer but which exceeds 155 million.

Regarding game sales, Philippe Lavoué reveals that Pokémon Diamant Etincelant / Pokémon Perle Scintillante achieved 700,000 sales in France. In the canned sales ranking, the duo ranks second in the best sales of the year 2021 after FIFA 22, while Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury and Animal Crossing: New Horizons complete a top 5 more than ever dominated by Nintendo. A more complete ranking will however be communicated by the SELL by integrating the digital sales of most publishers.
