A Nintendo Direct from August 31 gave us a long look at the next Super Mario Bros. game. Wonder, with an additional surprise at the end of the presentation: an all-new limited-edition OLED Nintendo Switch.
During its latest Nintendo Direct, the company showed off new gameplay for the upcoming Super Mario Bros. platformer. Wonderful. However, we also got to see some new hardware, or at least a new color for the OLED version of the Nintendo Switch.
If it looks familiar at first glance, that’s because Nintendo released a similar Mario Red standard Switch in 2021. However, this new version is all red, and features a few changes, including a silhouette of Mario in the lower back corner of the docking station, as well as rows of coins under the lid back of the docking station.

The Nintendo Switch OLED adopts the colors of Mario
Nintendo is used to launch special editions of its console to coincide with the launch of some of its exclusives, and Super Mario Bros Wonder was then the perfect opportunity to unveil a new colorway. Given the huge success of the movie Mario a few months ago, it was obviously to be expected that the Japanese company would ride on this success.
The Mario Red edition thus joins several other themed versions of the Switch OLED, including those of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Splatoon 3 and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The new console edition costs the same price as the standard version of the Switch OLEDand features the same hardware, including an upgraded screen, kickstand, and speakers.
As a reminder, the new 2D platform game, which will be released on October 20, will feature Mario and other characters from the franchise, such as Luigi, Yoshi, Princess Peach, Toad and Daisy. Wonder will feature a changing world and new bonuses, including one that turns Mario into an elephant. This is the first traditional side-scrolling Super Mario game to be released since New Super Mario Bros. U in 2012.
