There Nintendo Switch 2 would have a larger screen, but the latter would be deprived of OLED. The console would nevertheless still be planned for 2024.

The weeks pass, and Nintendo has not yet communicated any official information about its future console. Ultimately, what’s the point? At the start of 2024, the Switch is still in excellent shape and the Kyoto firm has largely dominated video game sales in France throughout 2023.

That being said, the hybrid console is nevertheless starting to show the weight of the years. Various elements allow us to gather some information around the Nintendo Switch 2. According to a very serious source, Big N’s new machine does not have a screen as bright as that of the Nintendo Switch OLED…

The Nintendo Switch 2 should not have an OLED screen

In October 2021, two years after the launch of the Nintendo Switch Lite, Big N marketed a third iteration of its home/portable console: the Nintendo Switch OLED.

Unsurprisingly, the machine had a sumptuous screen thanks to much more pronounced contrasts. In addition, the beast swapped its 6.2-inch LCD screen, for the first model (and 5.5 inches for the Nintendo Switch Lite), for a 7-inch OLED panel.

If we could until now hope that the Switch 2 would also benefit from an OLED screen, analyst Hiroshi Hayase, from the research firm Omdia, has just brushed aside the last hopes.

Nintendo Switch 2: an 8-inch LCD screen and a release in 2024?

The Omdia firm announces the adoption of an 8-inch LCD panel for the Nintendo Switch 2. According to information shared by Hiroshi Hayase and relayed by Bloomberg, it is the company Sharp Corp, located in Japan, which would be responsible (among other things) for supplying the LCD panels to Nintendo.

In addition to the size gain, note that the screen definition should also switch from 720p to 1080p. For the moment, we do not yet know if the frame rate will always be limited to 60 Hz, as is currently the case on the different Nintendo Switch models.

If these various assertions are confirmed in the weeks and months to come, we must admit that the return to an LCD screen, particularly for Nintendo Switch OLED owners, would be particularly regrettable. Remember that the latter is precisely appreciated by users for its ability to offer a colorful rendering, including on previously released titles.

To conclude on a more enthusiastic note, the analyst seems to support the idea that the new Nintendo console could be marketed in 2024. The latter anticipates a significant increase in the production of LCD screens intended for entertainment for the current year.
