Nintendo Switch: first indiscretions on its replacement

Expected in 2024, the replacement for the very popular Nintendo Switch remained quite mysterious until then. However, initial indiscretions give us some information about him. Reported by the magazine Video Games Chronicle (VGC), they are to be taken with tweezers. Asked by VGC, Nintendo did not wish to comment on these leaks.

Thus, anonymous sources revealed to VGC that Nintendo’s next console should arrive in the second half of 2024. The Japanese company is experiencing some difficulties, with sales of Switch and games in sharp decline. The release of a new device is therefore very important for the brand and awaited by the players. However, in order to avoid a start-up shortage, as was the case with Sony’s PS5, the launch of Nintendo’s new console will not be rushed.

An LCD screen to limit costs

It should take up a concept similar to the Switch, still allowing portable use. In order to limit production costs, the screen of this new console would use LCD technology, while the Switch nevertheless received a more high-end version with an Oled screen during its career. The storage, currently 32 GB for the Switch, should however take a leap forward to support ever larger games.

According to VGC sources, this new console would retain physical game cartridges. Be careful not to declare victory too quickly, the backward compatibility of Switch games is not guaranteed.

It remains to be seen whether this new Nintendo console will succeed in attracting players as much as the Switch. The latter has sold more than 125 million units since its launch in 2017, helped by successful exclusives, such as the excellent The Legend of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom.
