Nintendo: We have news of the Super Mario movie, and it’s progressing pretty well!

Just two months after the announcement of its official postponement, the also expected and feared animated film Super Mario is once again giving its news! And they’re pretty good this time, well… At least being optimistic. The information collected comes froman interview granted by Chris Meledandri, the director of the Illumination studio at the origin of the film, to our colleagues from Variety.

Chris Pratt as Mario: Good or bad choice?

While Super Mario’s cast looks pretty good, including acclaimed celebrities such as Jack Black and Anya Taylor, some of the film’s potential future audience hasn’t been won over by the actor selected to voice the main character. Because yes, it is indeed Chris Pratt, known in particular for his roles in the Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers or Jurassic World, who will lend his voice to the most famous plumber in history on the big screen.

Unfortunately, if his previous roles are generally rather appreciated by the fans, his presence in this casting has displeased part of the community who believes that Mario should be dubbed by an actor of Italian origin in order to stick perfectly to the origins of the hero. Well, a controversy that one would easily consider quite futile but which the director of Illumination nevertheless defended himself during his interview, believing that Chris Pratt was perfectly in his place in this role and that he is very satisfied with the result of the sessions recorded so far!

Chris was selected because we felt he could deliver an outstanding performance as Mario. Now that we’ve recorded about 15 sessions, and the film is three quarters ready, I can tell you that I love his performance as Mario. I think it’s going to be fine, especially because he (Pratt) was excellent.

If we are to believe these words, there will therefore be no need to worry about the casting and especially the role that Chris Pratt will play. It was also for the head of the animation studio to reveal to us that the film would be “three quarters ready”, enough to reassure the most impatient who feared a new postponement in the coming weeks after the recent disappointment of last April. .

It remains to be seen whether the expectations of the public will be met with this animated film. Will he restore the image of films on Mario and Luigi, or will he drive the point home one last time before we consider stopping once and for all these hitherto catastrophic adaptations? We will know in the spring of 2023!

While the wait for a film dedicated to Mario and his friends (and enemies) acceptable to fans to be released one day is long, more than twenty years already, the creator of the most famous plumber in history, Shigeru Miyamoto, announced the postponement of the animated film Super Mario Bros.
