Recent iOS, iPadOS, tvOS and macOS updates have a surprise in store for retrogaming enthusiasts.

Indeed, the latter makes it easy to pair a Super Nintendo, NES or Nintendo 64 controller.

Nintendo’s retrogaming controllers are coming to Apple

During its WWDC last June, Apple confirmed the compatibility of Nintendo Switch controllers with iOS 16. Via the recent iOS 16.1, retrogaming enthusiasts will be delighted to learn that this same compatibility has been extended to Nintendo’s retro controllers.

Indeed, on its official website, Nintendo markets wireless versions of its Super Nintendo, N64 and NES (and SEGA Mega Drive) controllers. These Bluetooth controllers, rechargeable via USB-C, can therefore now be paired with an iPhone, an iPad, but also an Apple TV and MacOS.

In the “Settings” section, it is thus possible to very easily configure Nintendo’s wireless controllers for the Apple ecosystem. In addition to the ability to play Apple Arcade games (and others) with your childhood controller, it is also possible to navigate within the Apple TV interface, directly from a wireless Super Nintendo controller.
