(Reuters) – Nissan may walk away from a deal with Renault over the future of their alliance as the French automaker plans to share jointly developed patented technologies including with Geely Automative Holdings, Bloomberg reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the issues. talks.

Renault’s projects would include hundreds of technologies developed by the two partners, including in areas essential to the development of autonomous electric vehicles, according to the sources cited by the agency.

Nissan wants to ensure its intellectual property would be protected if Renault strikes a deal with Geely for the Chinese company to take a stake in its internal combustion engine unit, the sources say.

Separately, Nissan chief executive Makoto Uchida told Reuters on Friday that talks between Renault and Nissan focused on how to optimize their investment in electric vehicles and improve the alliance’s competitiveness.
