According to the very serious Nikkei AsiaNissan wants to be the first Japanese manufacturer to put an end to the thermal car.

Well almost…

Electric Nissans for everyone (except in the USA)

Indeed, according to Nikkei AsiaNissan plans to virtually halt development of new combustion engines and focus on developing electric vehicles “. The manufacturer, already very committed to the electric market, would therefore like to speed up the pace by abandoning this good old combustion engine. Remember that last summer, the manufacturer Audi announced its decision to produce its latest combustion model in 2026.

However, the Japanese newspaper specifies that Nissan’s decision will not concern the United States. Indeed, with more than one million vehicles sold each year, the US is the second most important market for the brand, the best-selling vehicle being the Rogue SUV, followed by the Frontier and Titan pick-ups.

Like Ford, which recently formalized an electric version of its F-150, we imagine that Nissan will in turn offer a zero-emission version of its bestseller in the United States, which is however not on the program. for the moment. It is therefore difficult for Nissan to consider abandoning this very buoyant market…

Nikkei Asia indicates that Nissan will continue to improve existing combustion engines, but will not develop new ones. Nissan does not plan to cut jobs in engine production plants at this stage, but the company will gradually reassign employees responsible for development and production of combustion engines to positions related to electric vehicles.
