No aircraft available: Niceair ceases operations

Iceland’s youngest airline, Niceair, has had to suspend flight operations. But that has nothing to do with financial problems, as the airline emphasizes.

If you only have one plane, it’s problematic when it’s no longer operational. Air Vanuatu was the last to notice – and now Iceland’s youngest airline, Niceair. The airline, which connects the north of Iceland with destinations across Europe, had to suspend flight operations.

The reason: the airline’s only Airbus A319 is no longer available. Niceair is a virtual airline. The jet, which should have flown the guests to Düsseldorf from May, belongs to the Portuguese wet-lease airline Hi Fly. And, according to Niceair, they have not paid their debts to the company from which they are leasing the Airbus A319.

No aircraft available: Niceair ceases operations

According to the RUV portal, airline boss Þorvaldur Lúðvík Sigurjónsson has settled all liabilities himself. The staff was informed of the problems. And they try to get a replacement plane. But it’s not that simple. Therefore, Niceair pauses operations.

Nice Air does not stand for the English word Nice – meaning nice. But it is also program. Nice stands for Northern Iceland, i.e. Iceland’s north. Today, most of the visitors to the island with its natural power also travel north. Before Niceair was founded, they always had to do this via Keflavik Airport.
