“No conversation, no agreement”: Klopp’s alleged successor clearly denies this

“No conversation, no agreement”
Alleged Klopp successor clearly denies it

He is considered the preferred candidate to succeed Jürgen Klopp; an agreement is said to have already been reached. But now Ruben Amorim speaks out for the first time and clearly denies it.

Coach Ruben Amorim has firmly denied an agreement with Liverpool FC. The alleged preferred candidate to succeed Jürgen Klopp, who is leaving at the end of the season, said that he had not even spoken to the Reds. “There was no conversation and certainly no agreement,” emphasized the Sporting Lisbon coach. “All of us here are only interested in us becoming champions with Sporting. As always, I am focused on my club. And because I have nothing else to say about it: There will be no discussions or agreements with the Sporting coach.”

Several media outlets recently reported that there would already be a verbal agreement between the 39-year-old and Liverpool. Klopp will leave the traditional English football club at the end of the season. Amorim has been coaching Sporting since 2020 and surprisingly won the championship in 2021 – the first for the club in 19 years. This year there could even be a championship and cup double.

He had recently linked a possible future at Sporting to winning titles. “I can’t guarantee that we’ll become champions. So I can’t guarantee that I’ll stay,” he reiterated. Amorim’s contract in Lisbon runs until 2026, and a transfer fee of 15 to 20 million euros is being discussed.

Amorim has quickly made a name for himself as a top trainer in his homeland. In 2019 he coached Sporting Braga, but was bought out of the contract by Sporting for ten million euros after just two months.
