No rescue package – Okto TV: City of Vienna remains with funding stop

The operators of Sinnlos-TV Okto saw a rosier future after a round of negotiations with Vienna. However, this is unfounded – the flow of millions has finally dried up. There aren’t many options left.

So many official supporters, but oddly enough hardly any spectators – after a total of 17.7 million euros in funding from the City of Vienna, City Councilor for Finance Peter Hanke (SPÖ) has finally closed the subsidy grave. As reported, the “Community TV” nonsense is no longer supported by the city. This means that programs like the “Mehmet Keser Show” have to get by without these subsidies. What was there to see? Difficult to say, without a simultaneous translation Turkish-German you can’t understand a word, people often just sit in a circle and drum. All of this is expensively supported, but far below the perception limit. Then the alleged bang effect: “The operators of the Viennese community TV station Okto see the future of the project a bit rosier than last”, was read this week in the “Standard”. Background: A round of negotiations with City Councilor Peter Hanke. Conclusion: “It was agreed that a solution would be attempted within the next four weeks.” So will the city save Okto TV after all? Transmission break for OktoAs the “Krone” learned, the operators’ hopes are not justified. The flow of millions from the highly indebted city treasury towards Okto has definitely dried up. Subsidies are possible from the federal government or as part of the media initiative. Hanke: “In the future we will support projects in the Viennese communities directly and no longer via linear TV, which is used less and less by young people.” So Okto has to raise money elsewhere. Otherwise transmission break.
