Thanks to the granting of a license, a French startup will market portable PCs under the Nokia brand. Two models of 15 and 17 inches are planned for the second quarter. They ship modest configurations going to the essentials.
The Lyon-based company OFF-Global, created for the occasion, obtained the exploitation rights from Nokia to offer portable PCs under this brand throughout the world except in India, a country in which Nokia is already established on the Laptop PCs. OFF-Global is therefore in charge of the design and development of the new PureBook range, as well as marketing and after-sales service; all in collaboration with the Nokia teams, who validate the products while respecting the brand.
This first series of Nokia laptops is called PureBook. It uses a design that does not seem unfamiliar to us, recalling in particular the codes of the MacBooks of 2009. A shell without artifice, perfectly monolithic with rounded corners and small round rubber feet. The entire chassis is made of plastic while the cover, made of brushed aluminum, is available in four colors.
If the PureBook is available in 15 and 17 inch versions, the configuration is however strictly identical: a 15.6” or 17.3” IPS panel displaying 1920 x 1080 pixels, an Intel Core i3-1220P processor accompanied by 8 GB of DDR4 and a 512 GB NVMe SSD. A modest choice of components, the biggest unknown of which remains the processor. If the latter is not yet available, the performances are promising on paper since it has Alder Lake’s hybrid architecture combining 2 high-performance hyperthreaded cores and 8 efficient cores, as well as an Iris Xe part with 64 units of calculations. A real leap forward compared to the 11th generation Core i3-1115G4 limited to 2 hyperthreaded cores and an Intel HD graphics part.
The connection consists of two USB-C 3.2 ports, a USB 3.2 port and a microSD slot. The webcam located above the screen has a 2 megapixel sensor, i.e. a full HD format. Wireless connectivity is limited to wifi 5 (802.11ac) and Bluetooth 5.0, and we can regret that wifi 6E is arriving en masse with the arrival of the latest generation processors. Small refinements are still present: a backlit keyboard with numeric keypad (for the 17-inch version only), a fingerprint reader compatible with Windows Hello and four speakers for an improved multimedia experience, we were told. assured.
Finally, the PureBook has a 57 Wh battery for an announced autonomy of 10 hours, according to Nokia. The PureBook 15 measures 35.8 x 23.7 cm at 1.9 cm thick and weighs 1.7 kg, while the PureBook 17 is slightly thicker at 1.96 cm at 2.5 kg. OFF-Global announces that its PureBook 15 and 17 will be available in the second quarter of 2022 at prices of €699 and €799 respectively. A slightly high price placement given the proposed configuration and the lack of real characteristics capable of making the difference with the models currently on the market.
