A 40-year-old woman and a man of the same age were notified of a legal reminder after illegally filming and photographing the trial of Nordahl Lelandais, held from January 31 to February 18 at the Grenoble assizes.
From January 31 to February 18, the trial of Nordahl Lelandais was held at the Grenoble Assize Court for the murder of little Maëlys de Araujo, 8 years old. Although widely publicized, the hearing was neither photographed nor filmed, as required by the text of 1954 supplementing the law of 1881 on the freedom of the press, which prohibits “the use of any device capable of recording, fixing or transmitting speech or images“of a trial. On February 3, first of all, a video in which “we can see the accused” was broadcast live on the social network Facebook. Its author, a 40-year-old woman, was immediately investigated. Heard by the police on Tuesday February 22 and summoned before the delegate of the Grenoble prosecutor, she has been notified of a reminder of the law and will have to pay 100 euros of citizen contribution, prosecutor Éric Vaillant said in a statement. A very mild sanction, when we know that the fine incurred in the event of capture during an assize trial can reach 18,000 euros.
Shameless photographer takes selfie break
Another image from the trial also made headlines. Also in February, a 40-year-old man took a selfie while in the courtroom. His gesture, somewhat confusing, was also punished. At first, the security services of the assizes asked him to delete the photo. The shameless photographer then received a summons. “He will be summoned in March before the prosecutor’s delegate for a reminder of the law and a citizen contribution of 50 euros”said Eric Vaillant.
Note that the video posted on Facebook at the beginning of February was tagged with the words “tribunal de grande instance de Grenoble”.
