North Korea conducts multiple rocket launcher fire, says South Korea


SEOUL (Reuters) – North Korea appeared to fire multiple rocket launchers on Sunday, the South Korean military said, amid renewed tensions on the peninsula.

Although they attract much less attention than intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), North Korea has unveiled several new types of multiple launch rocket systems in recent years, adding to an already large arsenal of artillery that can hit potential targets in the South.

“North Korea conducted what appears to be multiple rocket launchers this morning. Our army was monitoring the situation and stood ready to intervene,” South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement. without giving more details.

North Korea fired fire off its western coast, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported.

South Korea’s National Security Council held an emergency meeting about the launches.
