SEOUL, Jan 17 (Reuters) – North Korea fired two suspected ballistic missiles from a Pyongyang airport on Monday, the South Korean military said, in what would be Pyongyang’s fourth test in less than two weeks.
The Japanese government also reported the shootings. Japanese government secretary general Hirokazu Matsuno condemned the tests, calling them a threat to peace and security in the region.
The North Core carried out three tests in less than two weeks. “Hypersonic missiles” had been launched during two of these tests. Last Friday, ballistic missiles were fired.
The missiles fired Monday would be short-range ballistic missiles (SRBM) fired from Sunan Pyongyang airport, according to the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).
The tests carried out from Pyongyang in recent weeks have been condemned by the international community, and the American administration has called on North Korea to dialogue.
The Biden administration imposed sanctions on North Korea on Wednesday and urged the United Nations Security Council to do the same.
