Doubs is preparing to welcome no less than 25 new urban radars.
In the territory of the Pays de Montbéliard, in the Doubs, a vast experiment has been carried out for three years, with new urban radars. The objective of the latter could not be simpler: to sanction all vehicles traveling above the 50 km/h authorized in built-up areas.

Indeed, as of January 29, 2024, no less than 25 urban radars will be fully operational in just under fifteen municipalities in the Pays de Montbéliard. These will still be reported in advance, but from this date, offenders will now receive their notice of violation directly at home.
Note that in addition to fining vehicles traveling above the authorized 50 km/h, urban radars also monitor red lights. Motorists who have fun crossing a red light will therefore also be penalized by these new technological gems dedicated to road safety.
An experiment that demonstrates real usefulness
These new urban radars, which replace fixed radars and traffic lights, are able to detect excessive speed in both directions of traffic. They are generally installed on a dedicated mast. Note that the Territoire de Belfort has also been equipped with these same urban radars since Tuesday January 16.
For its part, the Doubs prefecture indicates: “ out of the 14 municipalities equipped with urban radars, for the year 2022, 26 accidents were recorded, causing 3 deaths and 37 injuries, with in 26% of cases, speed as the main accident factor. “.
According to the prefecture, the experimentation carried out in recent years has demonstrated the usefulness of this new system, acclaimed by the municipalities concerned. Urban radars promise to reduce speeds in urban areas, limit noise pollution for local residents, and better protect pedestrians.
