“Daredevil: Born Again”, the upcoming Disney+ series, is being completely revised again. But Marvel also wants to change a lot in the series area.

  • Marvel is no longer satisfied with the superhero series on Disney+.
  • “Daredevil: Born Again” is currently being completely reworked.
  • The general approach to the series is also changing.

In 2021, Disney+ ushered in a new era of Marvel series. Since “WandaVision,” new episodic productions that are closely linked to the events of the MCU appear several times a year. Marvel kept the cloak of silence over the Marvel series from Netflix and “Agents of Shield”, which also related to the Marvel films in content, but were always ignored by them.

Meanwhile, Disney is no longer satisfied with the series experiment. Titles like “Secret Invasion” or “Ms. Marvel” were too expensive and too unsuccessful, so it was decided months ago to focus more on class instead of quantity in the future. But now even more changes are planned.

“Daredevil” is just the beginning

As the “Moon Knight” director recently summarized, all new Marvel series are actually miniseries with a running time of 6 episodes, only “WandaVision” and “Loki” were out of line. Another exception should be “Daredevil: Born Again”, which, with a length of 18 episodes, was much closer to a classic free TV series.

Filming was already underway when the writers and actors’ strike stopped production. During this standstill, Disney and Marvel looked at the material that had already been shot and came to the conclusion: Things can’t go on like this!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Daredevil: Born Again” in its current form has become a legal series that lacks action and only shows Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock in the Daredevil costume in the 4th episode. All writers and directors have now been fired and a new team is being put together to get the ship back on track.

Marvel has so far been reluctant to produce series in the classic way. In other words, they didn’t just order a pilot episode and hired a showrunner to oversee the entire project, but instead immediately gave the green light to series worth 150 million US dollars and relied on the fact that all problems could be ironed out in post-production.

There was already a lot of ups and downs behind the scenes with “Secret Invasion” and “She-Hulk”, which Marvel wants to forego from now on. The miniseries approach is also being abandoned; longer series with several seasons are no longer ruled out.

In this way, the series should increase in value and not give the impression that they only exist to prepare the audience for the next big Marvel cinema event.

We won’t find out what the new version of “Daredevil: Born Again” will look like and how much of the episodes filmed so far can still be saved until 2025 on Disney+. In January 2024, however, we will return to the world of “Daredevil” and “Hawkeye” in “Echo” and Disney+ can check whether a smaller series that lives primarily from its main character will attract greater interest than a soulless effect spectacle like “Secret Invasion”.
