Note on technical defect: Boeing has to check older 737 models

Notice of technical defect
Boeing needs to review older 737 models

The problems at Boeing do not stop: three generations of the crisis-ridden 737 model have to be put to the test. The US aviation authority is reacting to the results of Indonesian investigators after the crash of a machine in January.

The US aircraft manufacturer Boeing has to subject all older aircraft of the type 737 to an inspection according to an order of the US aviation authority FAA. According to a letter from the FAA, the order affects all Boeing 737s of the 300, 400 and 500 generations. The background is the crash of a Boeing aircraft in Indonesia, in which 62 people were killed in January.

Indonesian investigators had found evidence of a technical defect in the accident machine after the crash. According to an interim report by the investigators, the aircraft’s automatic thrust control had an “abnormality”. So far, however, the investigators have not been able to clarify what was ultimately the cause of the crash.

“Boeing is working to ensure that our aircraft are safe and meet all requirements,” said the company. “We are in constant contact with our customers and the FAA and are constantly working to improve the safety and performance of our entire fleet.”

The Boeing 737-500 aircraft operated by Sriwijaya Air crashed a few minutes after take-off in Jakarta on January 9. All 62 inmates died.
