NSU files in Hesse: SPD broadside against Baerbock

NSU files in Hesse
SPD broadside against Baerbock

The Greens in Hesse prevent the release of files on the right-wing terrorist group NSU – against the will of more than 100,000 citizens. The SPD now complains that the green candidate for chancellor has no power.

SPD General Secretary Lars Klingbeil has sharply attacked the green candidate for Chancellor Annalena Baerbock because she does not turn against her party friends in Hesse. So far, the Hessian Greens, together with the CDU, have prevented the files from the NSU investigative committee there being released. “Instead of Annalena Baerbock enforcing a clear line, she ducks back and swirls around,” said Klingbeil at ntv. “Leadership looks different.” The behavior of the Greens is a declaration of bankruptcy in the fight against the right, said Klingbeil. “Stand up loudly against the right in the federal government, but wherever it becomes specific in the federal states, the Greens buckle and lose all stance.”

In a petition in Hesse, 125,000 people called for the files on the right-wing extremist terror group NSU to be published. The CDU-led interior ministry initially wanted to have them blocked until 2134, but now still until 2044. The green coalition partner supported this in the petitions committee. Presumably on Wednesday evening the plenary of the Hessian state parliament will vote again.

The NSU murders had national implications, stressed SPD Secretary General Klingbeil. The victims owe transparency and reappraisal. “But in Hesse, for flimsy reasons, the Greens, together with the CDU, are preventing the NSU files from being published.” The voting behavior of the Hessian parliamentary group is also a major topic of discussion within the Greens. Chancellor candidate and party leader Baerbock had made evasive statements on Monday.
