Luxury vacations are quite expensive. In fact, luxury holidays can also be cheap. You still get a lot for your money in 15 European locations.

Have a really good time – where better than on vacation? Relax in a luxurious 5-star hotel, let yourself be pampered with massages and enjoy a delicious menu in the evening.

What sounds far too expensive for some at first can be affordable with the right tricks when booking.

The online tour operator “weloveholidays” has carried out an analysis of how little a luxury holiday in Europe can cost per day. A rather inconspicuous country stands out particularly positively.

We present the best destinations for a cheap luxury holiday.

Romania – best destination for cheap luxury holidays

A particularly cheap luxury holiday can be made in Romania. A night in a 5-star hotel here costs an average of 85.11 euros per person. Two cities from Romania occupy the first two places in the entire ranking: Iași and Cluj-Napoca.

In Iași, number 1 in the ranking, a weekend spa day costs an average of 107.77 euros.

If you and your companion also want to treat yourself to a three-course meal in a restaurant, you can count on EUR 30.37 for both. In Germany, that is often not even enough for one person.

In Cluj-Napoca, place 2 , you pay around 50 euros more for a spa day at the weekend, i.e. a total of 156.96 euros. The cost of a visit to a restaurant is also almost 5 euros more per person, with an average of 40.49 euros for two people.

If you are a bit nervous about security in these cities, rest assured: According to the Numbeo safety index, the value here is 68.40 and 77.60 out of 100, as medium to good, the crime rate is not particularly great high.

City trip to Bucharest

A third city from Romania is also in 4th place in the ranking: Bucharest is also a cheap and easy place to book a luxury holiday.

The hotel would cost here on average 85.11 euros, a spa day at the weekend is 139.39 euros. For 44.54 euros you can treat yourself and your companion to a delicious meal in the restaurant.

The Numbeo safety index here is 71.90, similar to Iași and Cluj-Napoca.

A little further down in the ranking you can also find a city from Romania, namely Constanta. It occupies 7th place and is also very cheap at an average of 85.11 euros per night in a 5-star hotel.

The prices for a spa day are 79.65 euros and a restaurant visit for two costs around 37.96 euros. However, the safety index, at 51.44, is slightly lower than the other Romanian cities.

Bulgaria – magnificent buildings and beautiful nature

Bulgaria is best known for its dreamy nature and magnificent buildings – the ideal conditions for a holiday, especially if it is also affordable. In the ranking, the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv made it to 3rd place, so you can book a luxury holiday here really cheaply.

On average, a night in a 5-star hotel there costs 107.912 euros. For a spa day you pay about 108.94 euros. A visit to a restaurant for two costs only slightly more at around 32.04 euros.

With a value of 71.93 on the safety scale, Bulgaria is also quite safe when it comes to safety.

But Plovdiv is not the only city from Bulgaria that has made it into the ranking of cheap destinations in Europe for luxury holidays: 5th and 6th and 13th place are also occupied.

The city of Varna made it to place 5. There you pay about 107.91 euros per night in a 5-star hotel, a spa day costs 130.02 euros and a meal in the restaurant for two people costs about 34.34 euros. The safety index is 63.71.

The city of Burgas follows next in the ranking and thus occupies 6th place. A night in a hotel costs the same as in Varna, a spa day is slightly cheaper at 121.82 euros, and dining in the restaurant is also slightly cheaper at 33.33 euros. The safety index is 62.25, so the difference is minimal.

How expensive is it in the Bulgarian capital Sofia?

Bulgaria’s capital Sofia only manages 13th place. Everything is a bit more expensive here: you pay around 107.91 euros per night in a 5-star hotel, around 131.19 euros for a spa day and around 46 euros for a visit to the restaurant (for two people and three courses), 14 euros.

The safety index is slightly lower at 58.50.

Lithuania – untouched nature invites you to relax

Anyone who thinks about possible travel destinations in Europe rarely thinks of traveling to Lithuania. In fact, you can have a great holiday here, the untouched nature invites you to relax and in a decent hotel you can really unwind.

The city of Daugavpils takes 8th place in the ranking. A 5-star hotel costs an average of 154.31 euros, the average cost of a spa day at the weekend is 67.94 euros, which is extremely cheap compared to the other cities in the ranking and overall even the cheapest of all. For a meal in the restaurant you pay around 25.07 euros for two people and three courses, which is also very cheap. With a safety index of 61.92, Daugavpils is also quite safe.

Türkiye – popular holiday classic

Anyone who wants to get a lot for little money will probably quickly think of Turkey. Turkey also took three places in the ranking: 9th, 10th and 11th place went to Izmir, Bursa and Ankara. The prices for a visit to a restaurant here are also the cheapest on average.

Izmir is in 9th place, but like the other Turkish cities it actually costs significantly more than e.g. B. Romania: Per night in a 5-star hotel you pay an average of 183.94 euros, in Bursa and Ankara the same.

A spa day at the weekend even costs 187.42 euros. On the other hand, going to a restaurant is extremely cheap at around 14.71. The safety index is 68.38 euros.

Bursa takes 10th place. The full pampering program in the form of a spa day is available here for an average of EUR 172.19, while a visit to the restaurant is EUR 23.05. With a safety index of 70.41, Bursa is considered slightly safer than Izmir.

The Turkish capital Ankara was able to secure 11th place. Here the prices for a spa day are 149.94 euros and for a visit to a restaurant 15.95 euros. On the other hand, the safety index is slightly lower at 61.03.

Croatia – best in the off-season

Fantastic sandy beaches and untouched nature: Where can you get more holiday feeling than in Croatia? The city of Osijek made it to 12th place, making it one of the cheapest luxury holiday destinations in Europe.

With an average price of 190.30 euros per night, Osijek is the most expensive in the ranking, but the city scores with the highest safety index of 81.95. For a spa day you pay 138.22 euros, a visit to the restaurant costs around 32.02 euros.

Albania – a real insider tip

Albania takes 14th place with the beautiful port city of Durres. Vacationers have to pay around 121.20 euros for a night in a 5-star hotel, and a spa day costs 137.05 euros. At 28.73 euros for two people and three courses, a visit to the restaurant is also pleasantly inexpensive. The safety index is 69.38.

Czech Republic – Prices have increased in recent years

Germany’s direct neighbor, the Czech Republic, ranks 15th and last. The fourth largest city in the country, Pilsen has made it into the ranking of the best luxury holiday destinations in Europe.

For a night in a 5-star hotel in Pilsen you have to plan around 174.35 euros. For a spa day, you can count on around 106.60 euros. Dining out for two people costs about 33.78 euros, and with a safety index of 72.25, Pilsen is also very safe. All in all, there are many beautiful cities in Europe that are worth visiting – and where you can also go for a luxury holiday without spending a lot of money.
