Because the graphics cards are not necessarily designed for video game enthusiasts.
The thing is funny, but let’s admit that it will not surprise anyone with the slightest knowledge of the world of graphics cards.
80 GB of video memory!
Out of curiosity, but also probably a little to make the buzz – and besides, it works, the proof – a Chinese YouTuber got his hands on a professional graphics card designed by NVIDIA, the H100.
In reality, the bugger managed to get not one of these cards at more than 40,000 dollars each, but four of them! Four cards based on the GH100 GPU, which has 14,592 CUDA cores and is associated with no less than 80 GB of HBM3 video memory. The interface here is 5,120-bit for a bandwidth of 2 TB/s (compared to 1 TB/s on an RTX 4090) and it is also one of the first NVIDIA solutions to use PCIe Gen 5 .
As pointed out by our colleagues from Videocardz, note also that the H100 card is delivered without any fan. In reality, it must be mounted in a rack case and it is therefore the latter which integrates the entire GPU cooling system.
8 frames per second on Red Dead Redemption 2
The Youtuber Geekerwana assembled the whole thing with a homemade solution to refresh the PC, but he did not notice the slightest problem at this level. The same cannot be said for the performance side… in-game.
Indeed, if he managed to launch various benchs and video games, Geekerwana was not impressed by the results indicating that the low number of ROP units acts as a dramatic brake compared to what a GeForce card can produce. . On the TimeSpy scene of the 3DMark software, only 2,681 points were mentioned… less than a Radeon 680M (2,710 points)!
On Red Dead Redemption 2the results aren’t much more flattering for the H100, which can’t display anything other than a slideshow: at 8 frames per second, it’s absolutely not playable! VideoCardz also specifies that only 4 of the 112 texture units are actually usable and, to make matters worse, no optimized video game graphics driver has been published for such a card.
For “the beauty of the gesture”, the video is interesting to see. Moreover, it comes to confirm – if needed – that the price of a component is not everything.
