Nvidia is preparing very heavy stuff for its next graphics cards

Nvidia is reportedly about to unveil new graphics cards and is starting to do some big teasing. We’ll take this opportunity to give you a quick summary of what we know.

The Nvidia company recently attracted attention by publishing a mysterious image of a GeForce graphics card, hinting at the upcoming arrival of new Super versions of RTX cards for CES 2024. Quite a program, but with all this we s loses a little. What do we really know about the manufacturer’s next cards? And above all, what can we expect in terms of power?

Nvidia is teasing for CES 2024

The image released by Nvidia shows a graphics card floating in space above Earth. This card features a Founders Edition design, characteristic of models manufactured directly by Nvidia, as opposed to third-party models. One notable detail is a bright white chevron, suggesting additional LED lighting on this model.

Nvidia plans to reveal these new Lovelace GPU variants, likely Super RTX cards, during a special presentation at CES 2024 on January 8. Furthermore, the VideoCardz site reported leaks concerning the RTX 4070 Super from Zotac, suggesting that it would be one of the revised models. These new cards seem to follow the design of the current RTX 4070, with some minor modifications.

Nvidia is rumored to be planning to release three new Super updates in January, all revealed at the CES event. The expected models are the RTX 4070 Super, the RTX 4070 Ti Super and the RTX 4080 Super. Nvidia is also reportedly considering removing the existing RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4080 models to avoid crowding the market, especially given the disappointing performance of the RTX 4080 according to several reports. And then multiplying the models is never good for consumption in the context of graphics cards. This only loses the customer a little more.

These launches mark an important step for Nvidia in its quest to dominate the graphics card market, especially in the face of competition from the AMD RX 7800 XT in the mid-range segment. The RTX 4070 Super, in particular, seems to be at the heart of Nvidia’s strategy. Obviously, that doesn’t stop the tech giant from already developing the future.

And after ? The RTX 5000!

Nvidia’s future RTX 5000 graphics cards, expected in 2024, promise significantly improved performance compared to previous generations. According to available information (at the rumor stage), these cards would be based on a new “multi-chip module” manufacturing process, an architecture allowing the assembly of processors with very distinct tasks which communicate via broadband buses. This approach differs from current monolithic chips and should offer a significant increase in power.

The RTX 5000 could also integrate a new type of multiprocessor streaming (SMs). These components are crucial to running CUDA kernels, which accelerate parallel calculations, essential in many graphics applications. This looks complex, but just remember that the calculation work will be faster.

For the flagship model, the RTX 5090, we anticipate that it could be twice as powerful as the RTX 4090. A fairly huge gap even if we always have to take all this with a grain of salt. Finally, in terms of power efficiency, Nvidia could also make significant improvements with the RTX 5000 series, addressing current concerns about the high power consumption of its high-end models.
