Nvidia raises RTX 3000 prices – and here’s why

Nvidia has increased the prices for the Founders Edition of its RTX 3000 graphics cards by up to 100 euros. The reason.

Nvidia has increased the prices for its RTX 3000 “Founders Edition” graphics cards. The new prices can also be found on the Nvidia shop page. The Geforce RTX 3090, RTX 3080, RTX 3080 Ti, RTX 3070, RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3060 Ti are affected by the price increase.

This results in the following price changes for the RTX 3000 models:

  • The Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti FE (in the PC-WELT test) now costs 439 euros instead of 419 euros (+20 euros)

  • The Nvidia RTX 3070 FE (in the PC-WELT test) now costs 549 euros instead of 519 euros (+30 euros)

  • The Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti FE (in the PC-WELT test) now costs 649 euros instead of 619 euros (+30 euros)

  • The Nvidia RTX 3080 FE (in the PC-WELT test) now costs 759 euros instead of 719 euros (+40 euros)

  • The Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti FE (in the PC-WELT test) now costs 1269 euros instead of 1,199 euros (+70 euros)

  • The Nvidia RTX 3090 FE (in the PC-WELT test) now costs 1,649 euros instead of 1,549 euros (+100 euros)

This is how Nvidia justifies the price increase

Nvidia comments on the recent price increase to PC-WELT as follows: “Our RRPs are in US$ and are subject to exchange rate fluctuations. This has led to a small adjustment in some countries. Please check your local product page for the most up-to-date prices including regional EU taxes .”

Nvidia also explained to PC-WELT that the price increase does not affect the recently announced Geforce RTX 3050. This will come onto the market from this Thursday (January 27, 2022) at the unchanged RRP of 279 euros.

The last price increase was almost exactly a year ago. In January 2021, Nvidia had raised the prices for its graphics cards because they initially came onto the market with the reduced VAT of 16 percent due to the corona pandemic and this VAT then rose from 16 to 19 percent on January 1, 2022.

What does the price increase mean in practice?

Not much, because the situation on the graphics card market remains tense. Also on the Nvidia shop page, all of these above models are marked as “Currently unavailable”. Of course, the price increase only applies to graphics cards manufactured by Nvidia. The prices for the custom designs of the other manufacturers are not directly affected and are set by the manufacturers themselves anyway.

Ethereum price falls massively – are graphics cards cheaper now?

We recommend that you take a look at the following article, where we list where there are currently cheap RTX 3000s and AMD’s RX 6000s graphics cards. “Inexpensive” is relative, because the prices are still well above the RRPs.

But there is also at least one positive signal: the price of cryptocurrencies is currently falling massively, so the Ethereum price – which is relevant for graphics card miners – is now only around 2,100 euros. A month ago, 1 ETH was still worth around 3,600 euros. Depending on how long the trend lasts, miners could lose interest in graphics cards and prices might then drop.
