In quick succession, rumors come to mention the cases of the GeForce RTX 5000, the RDNA 4 architecture and the Arc Battlemage. As you can imagine, all this is only to be taken conditionally, but wait until you find cards at a decent price.
NVIDIA and the move to MCM
Credit where credit is due, we start these rumors with the first information about the next generation Blackwell from NVIDIA, which currently has the highest performance in video games.
First, the architecture should, as planned, reach us in 2024. However, originally, Blackwell was to succeed Hopper, a datacenter version of the Ada Lovelace architecture used on the RTX 4000s. The question therefore arises as to whether Blackwell will be reserved for the world of the datacenter, and what would be the name of its consumer counterpart.
Other information that seems to have to be confirmed: the use of TSMC’s 3 nm process for burning Blackwell GPUs. Knowing that this will be, for NVIDIA, the first Multi-Chip Module (MCM) architecture, it is not surprising to see the rumors mentioning an overhaul of the structure of the GPU. It is thus a question of a ” hyperspeed bus to link the different modules.
Finally, the hallway noises cited by Wccftech refer to a ” denoising accelerator of ray tracing. It should allow an improvement of this type of rendering. The rumor ends with ” Biggest Performance Leap in NVIDIA History “. Necessarily.
RDNA 4: AMD would aim for 3.5 GHz
It’s hard to talk about the future of NVIDA without mentioning that of AMD and, in doing so, RDNA 4. In addition, and even if these are still rumors, things are more precise when we talk about GPUs Navi 41, 42 and 43.
Navi 41 should thus be accompanied by a total of 32 GB of video memory, probably GDDR7. It could even be that a version is equipped with 48 GB for a total of 6 Memory Cache Die (MCD). We also mention 144 calculation units and a frequency of 3.5 GHz for a raw power of 129 FLOPS. Impressive.
Logically less powerful, Navi 42 would still be designed to have 96 calculation units, that is to say exactly the same number as on a Radeon RX 7900XTX. There is still talk of a maximum frequency of 3.5 GHz, and the rumor mentions a raw power of 86 TFLOPS. However, we have no details on the amount of onboard video memory.
The third thief, Navi 43, promises to be much more modest. The rumor speaks of “only” 48 computing units, but the frequency seems to have to be maintained at 3.5 GHz. The raw performance would then amount to 43 TFLOPS. GDDR7 would still be on the program, this time through 2 MCDs, but the question still arises as to whether the GPU will be MCM.
At Intel, the “battle mage” aims for 225 W
Finally, the hallway noises relayed by Wccftech end with some comments on Intel’s ambitions. The Arc Alchemist generation didn’t have the expected results, but that doesn’t seem to call into question the future of Intel’s graphics division.
While there was talk recently of a possible shift of the second generation Arc, Battlemage, to the beginning of the year 2024, the most recent rumors confirm rather a release at the end of 2023. However, there would still be no question of face AMD or NVIDIA on the high end.
Intel seems to care more about entry and mid-range with a GPU that needs to be able to get by with 225W. Gadgets360Raja Koduri pointed out how much Intel is looking to improve the efficiency of its chips rather than their raw power level.
He also clarified that ” performance per Watt or the ability to deliver higher performance at lower power is [sa] top priority “. He then targeted AMD and NVIDIA without naming them, adding: “ There will always be someone who says to you in a very skillful way “I will give you more fishing”. I prefer to reduce the power required. »
It is therefore clear that Intel will not seek to focus on performance alone before, at best, the Celestial generation, which is to succeed Battlemage by 2024-2025.
