Oberwart Clinic – busy X-ray work and new plaster record

The extraordinary day of black ice on January 23rd caused numerous “records” in the number of cases in the accident clinic, in the X-ray and in the plaster room at the Oberwart Clinic. A good third more patients had to be treated than on average days.

The staff of the accident clinic at the Oberwart Clinic will remember January 23rd for a long time. The slipperiest day of this year caused a lot of activity due to numerous falls on black ice and also brought a record number of cases in the accident clinic, in the X-ray and in the plaster room. 135 people, a good third more patients than on “normal days”, were examined in radiology after accidents caused by black ice. 400 X-ray images in one day “Around 400 X-ray images had to be taken on this one day,” reports Barbara Friedrich, senior radiology technologist. “The number of patients with injuries to the upper and lower extremities was exceptionally high,” confirms Primarius Dieter Pertl, head of traumatology and orthopedics. Challenge for the staff Injured wrists, ankles, spines and hips were primarily treated. The black ice day was also a challenge in terms of personnel: double staffing was required in the emergency room, and an additional cast assistant had to stay longer than usual.
