Obi-Wan Kenobi: the series edited by a fan… in a 2 hour film!

Reassembled by a fan of the saga, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series can now be watched as a two-hour film. Prepare the popcorn!

As reported by our colleagues from Konbini, Kai Patterson, an amateur content creator – and Star Wars fan – announced on social networks that he had reassembled Obi-Wan Kenobi to make a film.

His editing of 2 hours and 30 minutes, against the 6 hours of the mini-series broadcast on Disney +, he spoke about it on TikTok in a presentation video seen more than a million times… and which has not yet been censored by Disney! He has since posted a link where you can view his version for free.

Like many fans, Kai Patterson indeed felt the show was too slow. He cites in particular an overflow of useless shots added “to fill” the minutes of the episodes, shots which he decided to cut. He also specifies having got rid of moments that he found “annoying” and dialogues deemed “ridiculous”, as well as having changed the order of certain scenes “so that they have more impact”. He also tackled the original soundtrack which he reworked himself.

But ultimately his idea doesn’t stray too far from the original plans for the Obi-Wan project unveiled by one of the show’s main writers, Stuart Beattie, in an interview with The Direct last June. In fact, he had everythingwas first hired to write… a trilogy of films! But after the box office failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Disney’s plans changed.

If Obi-Wan Kenobi was not unanimous – among fans but also among critics – the series nevertheless made it possible to find the cult characters embodied by Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, and to complete the universe of the saga. Certain key elements of the show had moreover been designed by George Lucas as early as 1981: particularities faithful to the vision of the director that we can only salute.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi can be found on Disney+.
