After releasing the final version of Grounded, in 2022, and delivering the excellent The Outer Worlds to us three years earlier, Obsidian is currently working on its sequel and on Avowed, a fantasy RPG, news of which is quite rare. . But before working on all this, the studio worked on Fallout: New Vegas in particular, and could even have offered us an Avatar game.
This is in any case what confessed Feargus Urquhart, one of the founders, during an interview with GamePressure. He explains that if all the planets had been aligned, a game ” Avatar 2 would have been born in his studio. “ We talked about doing an Avatar game with them (James Cameron and 20th Century Fox). I don’t know how long it’s been, maybe six, eight years, or something “.
Imagining Obsidian’s expertise with RPGs in the extraordinary world of Pandora might have provided us with an incredible adventure, but things just didn’t pan out in the end. Finally, it is Ubisoft and Massive who are at the head of the next Avatar game, called Frontiers of Pandora, which should be released in the coming months.
And if some, nostalgic for Fallout: New Vegas, hoped to see the studio at the controls of a sequel, this is not the case for the moment. However, Feargus Urquhart does not close the door to a possible new collaboration with Bethesda in the future and would like to work on the license again before stopping his career.
To be clear, we’re not working on Fallout, and I don’t even know if we will. We just have to see what happens is the best way to put it. But I would like to do another Fallout before I retire. My hope is that it happens, but we just have to wait and see.
Regarding the future of Fallout, Bethesda has already indicated that a new episode will arrivebut only after The Elder Scrolls 6, in a few years.
