This Thursday, December 9, a couple appeared before the criminal court of Vannes, in Morbihan, for incestuous sexual assault and deprivation of care on their three children, ages 5, 8 and 11 at the time of the report.
The facts unfolded between April 2011 and October 2019, and were reported by the Morbihan department in July 2020. The ordeal that these three children were going through could be revealed from the moment they were placed in foster care in 2018, following an eviction for arrears of rent: the little girl, then 8 years old, ends up doing disturbing confessions to his maternal assistant. She reveals to him “being sexually abused by her father and seeing her parents having sex”.
A terrifying daily life
Under the guise of ordinary family life, it is actually hell that the three children endure on a daily basis : parents and siblings lived in a small apartment where all shared the same room, the couple used to live naked, an imposed nudity to their children “when it was hot”.
Under the influence of their parents, the two boys and the girl were not in school nor had received any real education. Their father taught them the alphabet and sometimes gave them lessons using holiday notebooks, and the only window to the world was a television turned on every day. The siblings were also deprived of care : undernourished, children received very little hygiene – one toilet per week.
Height of horror, the little girl revealed to have suffered sexual violence : she indicated during her hearing masturbating his father on several occasions, statements which had not been contested by the latter. The child would also have been witnessing her parents’ sexual antics. The lawyer concluded that “the details confessed by the girl cannot have been invented”.
The placement of siblings in foster care revealed severe delays in development and learning : the prosecutor, Magali Pauthier, thus described children who have “discovered the world when they were placed”. If they progress today in their new homes, the lawyer is concerned that they have been “immersed in sexuality far too soon”. The little girl, for her part, does not want to see her parents again ”who hurt him too much”.
Prison and withdrawal of parental authority
Unknown to justice, the two defendants did not seem to take the measure of the seriousness of the facts. However, the hearings reveal profiles of great instability, both financial and psychological: housed in low-cost housing, the 60 and 43-year-old couple – with a deaf and mute mother, and a man defined as “very violent” by his first wife – was placed under guardianship.
During the hearings, the statements of the defendants left us speechless: about the touching imposed by the father on his daughter, in front of his companion, the man made a point of clarifying that he had not ejaculated. The mother, for her part, blames his own daughter for the act : “It was she who wanted to do it. I saw him do it a few times, but every time we told him to stop”. Other statements from the father are striking their inconsistency : “They were clean and neat. We should have been careful”,“To what?”Asks the lawyer,“To hide” answers this one.
If these words reveal the extent of their disability as a parent, the verdict of the prosecutor is final: these parents “who have lied about everything, know very well that they have sacrificed and locked up their children, and have avoided any form of education”. The court sentenced the father to 5 years in prison, the mother to 2 years, and pronounced for the couple “withdrawal of parental authority, withdrawal of civic, civil and family rights for five years and registration in Fijais”. Defendants will also have to pay 5000 € to each child of the siblings, and 3000 € additional to the girl victim of incestuous acts.
