Ibrahimovic makes history with a penalty goal

Striker veteran Ibrahimovic is out for a long time because of a knee injury. The Milan professional celebrates his return to the starting XI against Udinese Calcio – and immediately sets a record. With his penalty, the Swede became the oldest goalscorer in the league.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has become the oldest goalscorer in Serie A history. The Swedish football star scored in his starting XI comeback after more than a year in the away game of his AC Milan in the evening at Udinese Calcio with a penalty just before the break to make it 1-1 (45+4).

At 41 years and 166 days, the striker ousted former Milan pro Alessandro Costacurta from the top of the all-time rankings. Costacurta was 41 years and 25 days old when he scored his last goal in the Italian championship. Despite the penalty, Milan lost the game 1:3 (1:2). Roberto Pereyra (9th), Beto (45th + 6th) and ex-Cologne Kingsley Ehizibue (70th) shot out the victory for Udinese.

Ibrahimovic only made his comeback at the end of February after a nine-month break due to a knee injury. The veteran star was also called up by national coach Janne Andersson for the start of the European Championship qualifiers with games against Belgium and Azerbaijan on March 24th and 27th. During his break, Ibrahimovic had extended his Milan contract until June 2023 last summer. What his future holds after the season is unclear.
