As the date draws closer, the former Keeper of the Seals, Christiane Taubira, still does not have the 500 sponsorships needed to stand in the presidential election. The latter has been saying for several days that the Socialist Party has been pressuring elected officials to prevent her from having her signatures.

“There was no pressure on anyone” to prevent the sponsorship of Christiane Taubira, said Thursday the first secretary of the PS Olivier Faure, who “wishes” him to obtain them. “Christiane Taubira is a friend, she is a great figure on the left, I absolutely do not wish her misfortune, quite the contrary”, he said on France 2, assuring to wish “that she can find his signatures” of elected officials to validate his presidential candidacy.

73 sponsorships on the counter

On Tuesday, the former Keeper of the Seals had only 73 sponsorships, out of the 500 needed. She has until March 4 to find them.

The latter and her team have been saying for several days that the PS is pressuring elected officials to prevent her from having her signatures. “Absolutely not”, repeated Olivier Faure.

“There are 40,000 people who can give a signature. Do not ask the Socialists, who have a candidate and who have chosen her”, he insisted. “On the other hand, of the 40,000, I imagine that Christiane Taubira will find her signatures,” he added.

The Guyanese candidate notably asserted that the PS had put pressure on the Radical Left Party (PRG), which supported her but has “withdrawn” from her campaign since Monday. “Call the president of the PRG and ask him if at any time I was able to put pressure on him. He will answer you no,” assured Olivier Faure.
