The latest nPerf barometer, published this Wednesday, January 10, once again crowns Bouygues Telecom as the best French operator on fixed Internet (fiber, xDSL and Wi-Fi), ahead of Free and Orange who shine in their own way.
Always eagerly awaited by users and operators, the nPerf Speed Test barometer has once again crowned Bouygues Telecom as the ISP offering the best fixed Internet performance in 2023, across all technologies, namely optical fiber and xDSL, as well as than in Wi-Fi. The operator dominates Free on speeds, and Orange on quality of service on the home Wi-Fi network.
Bouygues Telecom and Free the fastest on fixed technologies
Let’s start by analyzing the barometer of fixed Internet connections in mainland France. In 2023, Bouygues Telecom took first place, and the ranking is not up for debate! Santa may have granted the operator’s wish with a number slot on downloads/downloads (332.55 Mbit/s), on uploads/sends (256.96 Mbit/s) and on latency (17.19 ms).
Bouygues Telecom is thus rewarded for its investments in networks and the adoption of its boxes equipped with Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E, which are a success, and this was felt in the connection tests carried out by the subscribers.
Behind, we find Free in very good shape, with averages of 327.87 Mbit/s going down; 213.70 Mbit/s upstream and 18.58 ms latency. If all operators are growing, Orange and SFR have not been able to sufficiently catch up and join the fight. They are much further away.
On Wi-Fi, Bouygues Telecom also dominates, but Orange is showing its nose
When it comes to home Wi-Fi alone, there are fewer differences between operators. But Bouygues Telecom nevertheless remains the leader, for the third year in a row, by delivering the best quality of Wi-Fi internet service. Bouygues achieved a real performance in 2023, winning on all the indicators measured: downlink speeds and amount, latency, and quality of service (browsing and YouTube video streaming).
Behind, we find the historic operator, Orange, which has made progress towards the end of 2023, with the release of its Livebox 7 equipped with Wi-Fi 6E and compatible with the particularly promising XGS-PON technology. In the last quarter, Orange competed with Bouygues Telecom, to compete with its leadership.
Free and SFR are not unworthy. If they occupy the last two ranks, they have made progress on Wi-Fi in 2023, and the probable addition of Wi-Fi 7 to the next Freebox v9, expected at the start of 2024, could also change the situation and help to further improve user speeds.
